The FUEL SMART Sports Nutrition Program teaches youth and teen athletes the following:

  • How to fuel their bodies for energy, recovery, and performance through evidence-based, practical nutrition strategies.

  • How to build healthy, sustainable fueling habits that support both athletic goals and long-term well-being.

  • How to build balanced performance plates for training and competition

  • How to time carbohydrates, protein, and fluids for energy and recovery

  • Understand the purpose of food as fuel

  • Develop a positive and confident mindset around nutrition

FUEL SMART is for the parent just as much as it is for the athlete. 

This program is for youth and teen athletes

(ages 8–18) as well as parents, coaches, and sports teams seeking practical, science-based guidance on nutrition for performance and growth.

FUEL SMART Program Structure

 

Week 1 – S: Smart Choices

  • Learn how to create a habit of building performance plates for athlete meals

  • Carbohydrate purpose and needs

​

Week 2 – M: Meal Timing & A: Adequate Fuel

  • Understand pre-, during-, and post-game fueling needs.

  • Understand carbohydrate and protein timing.

  • Create a Game Day Fuel Plan.

​

Week 3 – R: Recovery Nutrition

  • Focus on post-training recovery and hydration.

  • Learn how sleep, snacks, and fluids support performance.

  • Design Your Recovery Routine.

​

Week 4 – T: Train the Mind

  • Discuss mindset, body image, and consistency.

  • Reflect on fueling goals and performance progress.

  • Feel confident with your FUEL SMART Action Plan.

Each month’s program includes weekly lessons, group discussions, and interactive activities centered around the FUEL SMART framework — teaching athletes how to balance carbohydrates, proteins, and fluids, understand performance plates, and build a confident, positive mindset around food.

Cost for each athlete participating in the FUEL SMART 4 Week Youth and Teen Nutrition Program is $440.
